I really like the idea of a reverse accent nail, where every nail is full of patterns except for one. I tried my hand at it today and it turned out looking like a Hawaiian shirt! And, of course, my camera never seems to be able to capture the beautiful scattered holo of DS Radiance, but it’s definitely there!
Colors are OPI DS Radiance, OPI Ogre the Top Blue, Star Gazer Chrome, and China Glaze Lemon Fizz.
I’ve been in a paint-my-nails-every-day mood this week, but when I put on the purple base for this manicure (Zoya Malia) a couple days ago, I fell completely in love with it and couldn’t bear the thought of taking it off the next day, so I just did some nail art over it! I seriously don’t think I’ve ever had a love affair with a simple creme polish like the one that’s going on between me and Malia right now. READ MORE AT MY BLOG GUYS.
So excited for Halloween! :)
OPI Dutch ‘Ya Just Love OPI?
7/03/12I do just love OPI, and especially this colour. It’s a rich reddish purple - plum, really - with tons of pigment and good scattering of gold shimmer that shows through well. It adds a wonderful new dimension to what would otherwise be a fairly standard purple. Without it, I’m sure I can dupe this purple and probably wouldn’t have bothered getting my hands on a bottle. But with it, it’s unmissable. This is the kind of colour that would look amazing on any skin tone, I think.
I was expecting to need three coats after my experience with Herring Problem but the formula wasn’t quite as thin, and while this did mean that the shimmer doesn’t stand out quite as much, I only needed two coats to get great opacity. If you wanted more shimmer, a layer of Essie’s As Gold As It Gets over the top would probably work wonders.
OPI Gouda Gouda Two Shoes
9/03/12I wish it had been a sunny day when I swatched Gouda Gouda Two Shoes* so the gold shimmer had a chance to shine. It’s still very pretty without it, though not quite as unique. That actually seems to be a fairly common thread in the Holland collection. There aren’t really any amazing, stand-out colours, but most of them have a little twist that makes them that much more interesting.
The formula was, again, a little thin but entirely manageable, and I used three coats for opacity. It doesn’t do much to hide any flaws you might have in your nails, at least not from up close. If you’re a fan of muted rose shades, this is a good addition to your stash.
*incidentally, the name pun here just doesn’t work as well for a Brit as it does an American - we pronounce “gouda” differently.
OPI Did You ‘Ear About Van Gogh?
10/03/12I really wish this was more… anything than it actually is. More brown, more grey, more something. I actually like it now more, after I haven’t had it on my hands for a while, than I did when I was wearing it, but my point stands. This colour is too bland and too harsh in equal measures. It’s not even that I dislike it - it just does absolutely nothing for me and the strongest feeling I can muster is “meh”. The formula was good and it was opaque in two coats. That’s all I really have to say.
